Exhibited Works
The collection of Sifang Art Museum is comprised of more than 400 contemporary artworks from China and over 30 countries and regions around the world, put together by museum’s founder and director, Lu Xun. In summer of 2018, we present our newest collection exhibition borrowing the title from Swedish artist Tarik Kiswanson’s work “… of …, at…h, at…, in…”, featuring over 50 works selected from our most recent acquisitions. Dynamically installed in the natural-light-filled galleries of the museum, we hope to bring forward new perspectives on individual works, and to help our audiences develop deeper attachments to and understandings of the objects on view.
The exhibition is loosely organized in four sections: the “common room”, “renovation”, “niche” and the “balcony”, a way reminiscent of a domestic home. A specifically commissioned project by resident artist Nathan Zhou takes place in the never-used stairway space. The exhibited works in a variety of mediums, such as painting, drawing, sculpture and video, show a growing concentration on works from regions like Southeast Asia and Latin America, as well as on African American artists and women artists in general.
Simultaneous to this exhibition and for the second half of 2018, the Sifang Art Museum is also home to a special artist residence programme initiated by Shanghai-based artist, Tang Dixin, involving over 20 artists from China, Japan and Korea. The artists live and work communally in the Sifang Art Collective and will aperiodically co-present performances, screenings and festive activities to public during their residence time.
